Austin, Texas June 26-28, 2011

Pre-Departure Seminar
Our last couple days have been filled with delicious food, rare manuscripts from the late 1500s, new relationships, 100 degree temperatures, Latino Museums and lectures on Mexican history, geography and sustainable development.

AD 1577
Original page from a book depicting Hernando Cortez and Dona Marina meeting indigenous leaders.
Notice the path with shoe and horse prints. We also viewed a letter from Cortez with his signature and an AD 1579 Census with 50 questions and village maps!

Young Latino Artists 16: Thought Cloud at Mexi-Arte Museum, Austin, TX
A thought cloud is a place where people, thoughts and connectivity come together for only a brief amount of time.

Jorge Galvan uses Woody Guthrie's song, This Land is Your Land, to honor the working class in Labor. Each letter is made from a different building material such as nails, glass, water pipes, roof shingles, screws and fiberglass.

Paths to Sustainability in Rural Veracruz
Marco Munoz from the IC2 Institute presented Paths to Sustainability in Rural Veracruz.
IC2's primary goal is to reduce poverty by giving the poor the instruments (organization, training, information and promotion) to succeed by themselves. While in Vera Cruz we will visit a coffee plantation that Marco has supported.
